Sat 20 Jan 2018: COLNE VALLEY AND THE HILLINGDON TRAIL (11miles)

Leaving promptly at 10:00 amHeading south through the picturesque village of Denham, we cross the Grand Union canal and head up into the rolling hills of Hillingdon to follow the Hillingdon Trail north to Harefield. We then descend back down to the Grand Union for lunch at the Coy Carp before heading south down the canal back to Denham. Mud, stiles, hills, nice views, and a fair bit of canal.

Denham Station Carpark (£4 a day pay at rail ticket machine cards or cash). From M40 J1 eastbound take A40 Amersham Rd.Turn right on A412 Denham Avenue signed Rickmansworth and Higher Denham, after about 1 mile turn right immediately after passing under railway bridge, signposted Denham Station. Trains to Denham 09:55 (to LDN) 09:32 (from LDN).Toilets but no cafe on Sats.

Sun 21 Jan 2018: THE DEVIL WITH A PUNCH (6miles)

Following the route of the old A3 we head north to pick up the Greensand Way, we then head west to Hyde Copse and return via Hyde Hill and the Robertson Memorial. Hopefully we will then have time for a cup of tea at the NT café.

This walk attempts to avoid as much mud as possible whilst still enjoying views, some woodland and having the advantage of easy parking. We'll start on the North Downs Way and continue to Polesden Lacey for lunch, on the return the route goes past Crabtree cottages and the chapel ruins. Option of tea after the walk.

Wed 7 Feb 2018: NEWLANDS CORNER, GUILDFORD AND ST MARTHA'S HILL CIRCULAR (8miles)

Walking from Newlands Corner to Guildford, we see the view of Guildford and the London Skyline from Pewley Down. We pass Semaphore House and the ruins of Guildford Castle on the way to the Wey towpath. We return via the North Downs Way, stopping to appreciate the views from St Martha's Hill.

Wed 14 Feb 2018: VALENTINES DAY WALK PUTTENHAM (5miles)

Feeling romantic? Even if you are not come and join us on this heart shaped walk ascending out of this picturesque village we reach the North Downs way to traverse Puttenham Common with great views to the snow capped southern hills. Passing idyllic Rose Cottage and on to view Puttenham Priory, a grand Palladian styled mansion. Then back across the fields to the start.There are tearooms at nearby Seale to be enjoyed at the end for those that are still feeling lovey dovey or not.

Sat 17 Feb 2018: A GRANDSTAND VIEW (EPSOM DOWNS) (4.5miles)

This is a fairly short, interesting historic walk with a relatively easy start, which becomes bracing and rougher underfoot as we reach Epsom Downs. We go through Rosebery Park, named after a prime minister: the Earl of Rosebery who was a noted racehorse owner and winner of the Derby three times. We pass his old stables and emerge onto the Downs. Taking Rifle Butts Alley we turn our heads towards Epsom and a lunch at the end of the walk at the Assembly Rooms, a Wetherspoon pub. POSSIBLE HOT DRINK AT THE TEA HUT ON THE DOWNS.

Sat 17 Feb 2018: MUD, MUD, GLORIOUS......... HILLS! (11.5miles)

From Thursley we will make our way south and east through the Devils Punchbowl and over Gibbet Hill to Grayswood for lunch. After lunch we take a fairly direct route north to pick up the Greensand Way back to the start. Nearly 7 miles before lunch.
The morning part of this walk is hilly and muddy, the afternoon is muddy and hilly!

Sun 4 Mar 2018: LIMPSFIELD (INCLUDING CROCKHAM HILL AND WESTERHAM) (9miles)

This is a great walk that I led on a Wednesday in November and I think that it would be good to now offer it as a Sunday walk. It is a circular route taking in woods, views and historic connections. Lunch will be in Westerham where there is a choice of cafes, tea rooms and pubs. Please bring a snack to tide you over as lunch will be more than halfway on the way.

Sun 11 Mar 2018: WINTER TEA WALK (5miles)

This is, I think, an ideal Sunday afternoon walk. Exploring Bents Brook and Black Brook, which can be muddy, (that's not the ideal bit) but then we're onto Holmwood Common with its excellent cinder path, ponds and historic connections with highwaymen & stage coaches rattling along what is now the A24. Tea, coffee and cake is being served for a modest donation in the Community Building attached to St John's church after our walk. TEAS AFTER WALK

Please take a few moments to read these important notes.

  • Non-members are welcome to attend up to three walks before being requested to join the Ramblers.
  • Ramblers members are welcome on all walks.
  • There is no need to book in advance, just turn up unless the programme specifically requests walkers to contact the walk leader prior to the walk.
  • If, exceptionally a walk has to be cancelled or altered the walk programme will be adjusted and a message will be posted on the Home Page.
  • You should bring appropriate clothing including waterproofs when rain is forecast as well as appropriate footwear. The walk leader may not allow walkers not suitably dressed to participate in the walk.
  • Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time and that you are ready to start walking at the time shown in the walk programme.
  • Please let the walk leader know if you plan to leave the walk before the end or if you wish to take a comfort break.
  • As a rule of thumb assume a walking speed of 2 to 2.5 miles per hour to calculate how long a walk will take. This is dependant on the number of walkers and the difficulties.
  • All walkers walk at their own risk.
  • SABRE members may bring a dog on a walk subject to prior agreement of the walk leader. The walk leaders instructions must be followed at all times, please refer to the SABRE Dog Policy for further details.
  • Assistance Dogs are welcome on all walks, please check with the walk leader the suitability of the walk for dogs.
