Sat 23 Dec 2017: CHRISTMAS IN THE SURREY HILLS (10miles)

Starting at the quarry car park under Pitch Hill we will head up past the Ewhurst Windmill on the Greensand Way. Once we reach Winterfold Hill we will drop down and do a loop around to Peaslake for lunch before carrying on to Holmbury St Mary where we pick up the Greensand Way again and follow it back across Holmbury and Pitch Hills to the start.

10 miles. This is a hilly walk and will be lead at a reasonable pace with bursts of brisk!! Mostly on sand but a very good chance of mud in places.

Circular walk using the Fox Way across farmland and woodland. Coffee in Shere village before the walk and tea shop or pub for a drink after the walk. Bring a snack as there is no lunch planned. If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping there will still be a couple of hours after the walk!!!

Mon 25 Dec 2017: IN SEARCH OF CHRISTMAS PIE (6miles)

We start from Ash Station and wonder around Normandy. This is a circular walk starting and ending at Ash Station. There are 20 parking spaces at Ash Station, parking is free on Bank Holidays. Please bring a packed lunch.
No dogs.

Tue 26 Dec 2017: WINDLESHAM PRAM RACE AND WALK (6miles)

This walk was led by Val last year and we all enjoyed it especially the fun-filled spectacular pram race so we thought we would do it again! The walk takes us into Lightwater Village and then on into Windlesham, where we shall spend some time watching the race which is now celebrating it's 50th year. It really will be an even more impressive event.
The annual Windlesham Boxing Day Pram Race is a fancy dress, charity event that sees the 'runners' complete a 3.5 mile course through Windlesham village stopping at local pubs along the way.These pubs get very busy so we will stop for lunch at Sutton's store/ cafe in Windlesham where hot drinks and light snacks can be purchased or bring a picnic if you want to.
After lunch, we return cross country to the heathland around Lightwater Country Park, where we visit the attractive ponds.

Wed 27 Dec 2017: TOO MUCH TURKEY !!! (11miles)

Too much turkey and too many mince pies, then join us for a healthy walk across heathland and woodland taking in Frensham & Hankley Common on the way to lunch at Tilford Green. After lunch we head for Tilfordmill Bridge and Farnham Heath Nature Reserve, across Tankersford Common and if time is on our side we can stop for tea at the Turn Café at the Frensham Little Pond before returning to the start.

Come and celebrate SABRE's 7th Anniversary with a circular walk starting at Haslemere Railway Station, taking in the Serpent Trail, Blackdown, Temple of the Winds and Marley Common. Lunch in Fernhurst (Pub or picnic). Mixture of woodland, farmland and heathland, good views if a clear day.

Leaving promptly at 10:00 amHeading south through the picturesque village of Denham, we cross the Grand Union canal and head up into the rolling hills of Hillingdon to follow the Hillingdon Trail north to Harefield. We then descend back down to the Grand Union for lunch at the Coy Carp before heading south down the canal back to Denham. Mud, stiles, hills, nice views, and a fair bit of canal.

Walking from Newlands Corner to Guildford, we see the view of Guildford and the London Skyline from Pewley Down. We pass Semaphore House and the ruins of Guildford Castle on the way to the Wey towpath. We return via the North Downs Way, stopping to appreciate the views from St Martha's Hill.

Sat 17 Feb 2018: A GRANDSTAND VIEW (EPSOM DOWNS) (4.5miles)

This is a fairly short, interesting historic walk with a relatively easy start, which becomes bracing and rougher underfoot as we reach Epsom Downs. We go through Rosebery Park, named after a prime minister: the Earl of Rosebery who was a noted racehorse owner and winner of the Derby three times. We pass his old stables and emerge onto the Downs. Taking Rifle Butts Alley we turn our heads towards Epsom and a lunch at the end of the walk at the Assembly Rooms, a Wetherspoon pub. POSSIBLE HOT DRINK AT THE TEA HUT ON THE DOWNS.

Please take a few moments to read these important notes.

  • Non-members are welcome to attend up to three walks before being requested to join the Ramblers.
  • Ramblers members are welcome on all walks.
  • There is no need to book in advance, just turn up unless the programme specifically requests walkers to contact the walk leader prior to the walk.
  • If, exceptionally a walk has to be cancelled or altered the walk programme will be adjusted and a message will be posted on the Home Page.
  • You should bring appropriate clothing including waterproofs when rain is forecast as well as appropriate footwear. The walk leader may not allow walkers not suitably dressed to participate in the walk.
  • Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time and that you are ready to start walking at the time shown in the walk programme.
  • Please let the walk leader know if you plan to leave the walk before the end or if you wish to take a comfort break.
  • As a rule of thumb assume a walking speed of 2 to 2.5 miles per hour to calculate how long a walk will take. This is dependant on the number of walkers and the difficulties.
  • All walkers walk at their own risk.
  • SABRE members may bring a dog on a walk subject to prior agreement of the walk leader. The walk leaders instructions must be followed at all times, please refer to the SABRE Dog Policy for further details.
  • Assistance Dogs are welcome on all walks, please check with the walk leader the suitability of the walk for dogs.
