Sun 20 Jan 2019: THE RIPLEY ROMP (5miles)

We walk out to the River Wey soon to pass the historic Newark Priory and head north to the picturesque St. Nicholas' church at Pyrford, visited by Queen Elizabeth I and Thomas Cromwell of Wolf Hall fame. Then across the fields to pass the Anchor Pub at Pyrford Lock, returning back along the River Wey to the start. Afterwards merrily reviving ourselves in Ripley

Sat 26 Jan 2019: BROOKWOOD, PIRBRIGHT AND FRIMLEY GREEN (10.5miles)

Starting at Brookwood station, we cross under the railway line and skirt around the northern edge of Brookwood Cemetery before making our way through Pirbright Village and onto Pirbright Common. Crossing under the railway line again, we head across the M.o.D. land and up the old Guildford road to Frimley Green for lunch at 12:00 at the King’s Head (Harvester) Pub. After lunch we make our way back to Brookwood along the Basingstoke Canal to finish hopefully about 15:00 ish.

In front of the main entrance of Brookwood Station, Brookwood, Surrey, GU24 0ER. Coming through Brookwood on Connaught Road (A324) look for signs to the station which is on the South side of the road. There is ample parking (£2 all day Saturdays). Trains from London arrive at 09:25 and 09:36 and from Basingstoke at 09:23 and 09:46.

Distance and Terrain:

10.5 miles. Moderate to Brisk pace. There are some rolling hills on the longer morning part of the walk, but the afternoon along the Basingstoke canal is mostly flat. Going generally good, but maybe some mud on Pirbright common.

Wed 30 Jan 2019: NORBURY PARK AND AROUND (4.5miles)

Around edges of Norbury Park towards Polesden Lacey, circular.

Please take a few moments to read these important notes.

  • Non-members are welcome to attend up to three walks before being requested to join the Ramblers.
  • Ramblers members are welcome on all walks.
  • There is no need to book in advance, just turn up unless the programme specifically requests walkers to contact the walk leader prior to the walk.
  • If, exceptionally a walk has to be cancelled or altered the walk programme will be adjusted and a message will be posted on the Home Page.
  • You should bring appropriate clothing including waterproofs when rain is forecast as well as appropriate footwear. The walk leader may not allow walkers not suitably dressed to participate in the walk.
  • Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time and that you are ready to start walking at the time shown in the walk programme.
  • Please let the walk leader know if you plan to leave the walk before the end or if you wish to take a comfort break.
  • As a rule of thumb assume a walking speed of 2 to 2.5 miles per hour to calculate how long a walk will take. This is dependant on the number of walkers and the difficulties.
  • All walkers walk at their own risk.
  • SABRE members may bring a dog on a walk subject to prior agreement of the walk leader. The walk leaders instructions must be followed at all times, please refer to the SABRE Dog Policy for further details.
  • Assistance Dogs are welcome on all walks, please check with the walk leader the suitability of the walk for dogs.
