Introduction
David Leedham was a valued member of SABRE and originally led this series of walks that he devised in 2006 and 2007, SABRE walked them again in 2023 in his memory. A tribute to David can be found here. We hope you enjoy them as much as us.
The Greensand Way runs for a total of 105 miles from Haslemere in Surrey to Ham Street in Kent. We walked the Surrey section in a series of day walks.
Greensand Way Part 1 (11 miles)
From Witley station we take the train to Haslemere, from there we walk to the start of the Greensand Way. The walk is a mix of minor roads, bridle ways and footpaths. Hilly.

Greensand Way Part 2 (12 miles)
This is a circular walk which incorporates section 2 of the Greensand Way walk, from Witley to Hascombe, with lovely views across the Weald. We walk via Hambledon Common, Burgate Hanger and Holloways Heath to Hascombe for lunch. We then circumnavigate Hascombe Hill, pass a mysterious stone circle, and head back to Witley via Northbridge. Several short hills.

Greensand Way Part 3 (12 miles)
We start this circular walk by descending from Winterfold Heath and crossing Smithwood Common. We head across country to Hascombe then pick up the Greensand Way, passing Selhurst Common and the old estate of Wintershall before heading towards Shamley Green. We cross the Wey and Arun canal then work our way back to Winterfold Heath. Some hills.

Greensand Way Part 4 (9 miles)
A classic section of the GW incorporating Reynards Hill, Pitch Hill and Holmbury Hill. We visit Holmbury St Mary for lunch and return to the start via a route to the south of the greensand ridge. Hilly.

Greensand Way Part 5 (9 miles)
We skirt Holmbury St Mary and head for the GW's high point - Leith Hill. Then down to the Wotton Hatch for lunch, and back to Holmbury via Abinger Common and Pasture Wood. Hilly 1270ft/387m in assent

Greensand Way Part 6 (10.5 miles)
We will take the bus to the start of this linear walk. Leaving Wotton we skirt Westcott, and climb The Nower with its lovely views of Dorking and the North Downs. We then follow a devious route through Dorking to Glory Wood, and on to Brockham for lunch. An easy afternoon section takes us via Betchworth to Reigate Heath and the car park. A few short steep hills.

Greensand Way Part 7 (13.5 miles)
We start with a walk to Redhill bus station and catch the bus to Reigate Heath. Picking up the GW at the Skimmington Castle PH we climb to Reigate Park with its lovely views, then walk some quiet Reigate roads and paths to Earlswood Common and lunch. After lunch we continue eastwards enjoying the North Downs views to South Nutfield and Bletchingley, where we leave the GW and work our way back to the start.

Greensand Way Part 8 (12 miles)
The final section of the GW in Surrey! We start with a bus ride to Bletchingley, then walk via Tilburstow Hill and Leigh Mill to Tandridge for lunch. We skirt Oxted, cross Limpsfield Common, and head for the county boundary on The High Chart. Then past Squerreys Court and down to Westerham for celebratory tea and cakes!
